In Response to Hurricane Ida

Even more powerful than Hurricane Katrina in 2005

Hurricane Ida brutalized southeastern Louisiana on Aug. 29-30, leaving at least several people dead and knocking out power for more than 1 million people, including the entire city of New Orleans. Fierce winds caused extensive damage while heavy rains and storm surge brought severe flooding, which remains an ongoing threat for the region.  Tropical Storm Nicholas made landfall on Sept. 14th with up to 10 more inches of rain causing more flooding.

Our Calvary Relief team deployed to NEW ORLEANS area serving with Samaritan’s Purse (SP) and the Billy Graham Rapid Response Team (BGEA RRT) from Oct. 10th through16th .  So much devastation and hurting people - but God's hope and love was shared to let them know that Jesus loves them and 9 people accepted Jesus that week.  PRAISE GOD!

It is amazing how powerfully God uses us as we step out in faith to serve Him.  Each day is literally an adventure, not knowing what God has in store for us, and as the day unfolds, seeing miracle after miracle - from people being 'saved' to houses being transformed.  As one of our teammates exclaimed "only with God's help" could we do this.  When she walked into one of the houses, it was so bad that she didn't know how they could ever get it done.  The next day, she was filled with joy as she looked over the cleaned-out house and knew it was only God that helped them do it.

We met homeowners with so many problems besides the hurricane - one laid up in bed for over 8 months with severe health issues, another so depressed that he didn't know how he could get through the day without another drink, others just not really knowing what a relationship with Jesus was. We saw people transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit as they chose to ask Jesus into their lives. People couldn't believe we would take time out of our lives to come there to help them. And we know it's only because of God that we were willing to go.   It showed them His love and that God heard their cry for help.  One blind man called us his 12 disciples that God had sent.
