Clarksville,TN Rebuild
April 28th - May 3rd, 2024

Around 2 p.m. on Dec. 9, the lives of residents in Clarksville, TN were changed forever as an EF-3 tornado with winds of 150 miles per hour made its path through TN and KY killing seven, four of those in Clarksville, including a 10-year old boy.

Our CCOB Calvary Relief Team had deployed to Clarksville, TN in January following a devastating tornado that ripped through the area toppling many homes and leaving a path of destruction.  This last trip, April 28th - May 3rd, we were able to go back to Clarksville to help rebuild a couple of the homes that had been previously damaged/ destroyed.  It was a blessing to meet the homeowners and see tears of joy as they saw their homes coming back together.

This was our 1st REBUILD deployment and it was quite different from previous disaster relief deployments, but it was GOOD!  Our team of 'unskilled' servant volunteers teamed up with Samaritan's Purse, their foreman and construction worker who patiently worked with us to show us how to use drill guns, skill saws, miter saw, measuring and leveling devices and other tools needed to do the job.  We wrapped and sided a home while two of our teammates on a different team painted and installed flooring in a home that was almost done. We now have a whole new appreciation for construction workers - it's not easy!  But it was fun learning new skills and giving homeowners new hope.

The home we worked on was nearly completely destroyed in Dec.  Homeowner was inside when the tornado struck, breaking through the front bay window and throwing broken glass into his face and arms.  Shortly after the storm, in early Jan., he ended up in the hospital for open-heart surgery.  His wife said she couldn't believe it when Samaritan's Purse (SP) had called and said they would help them rebuild.  Each day they stopped by and with tears thanked us over and over again for helping them.  Both have grown closer to the Lord through all this.  Once again, each of us truly felt God had brought us to Clarksville for a reason and it was a blessing to be used by Him to show these people He was there for them.
