Maui Rebuild - Lahania
August 10 - 16, 2025

On Aug. 8, 2023, high winds from Hurricane Dora & dry conditions prompted fires in Lahaina, Maui. These wildfires leveled the town - approximately 1,550 parcels & 2,200 structures were destroyed leaving thousands of people homeless. Our Calvary Relief teams deployed in Oct. & Dec. 2023 to help homeowners recover personal belongings.

Our Calvary Relief team deployed back to Maui from August 10th -16th, 2025 to join Samaritan's Purse in rebuilding homes that was completely burned down a couple years ago.  We had the chance to meet with the homeowner and her family.  She described her horrific escape as she drove through the flames to try to get to safety.  She was safe, but her home was completely gone.

Samaritan's Purse is in Lahaina rebuilding 42 new homes - 6 have been completed.  While there, teams were working on 3 new homes.  We helped with skirting, sanding, caulking, puttying holes, laying cement, building steps, etc. etc.

Each day the homeowner, Auntie Darlene, would stop by to see the progress.  Once completed, her daughter and son-in-law and family will move in with her until they can rebuild their home, which was also lost in the fire.  We had the chance to talk to her about Jesus, encourage her, and pray with her.  She was sooo thankful and even gave each of us a shirt saying 'Lahaina Strong' in appreciation

During the week, we also met a couple guys at the beach and shared with them about Jesus.  One had been an atheist, but now LDS, and his dad was non-committal but interested - we gave him 'Steps to Peace..." booklet and prayed with them.  We continue to pray each of them fully surrenders to Jesus.

Each trip is a blessing in so many ways!  We see God's hand at work and how He uses us to bring His peace and comfort to people who have lost so much.
